Double Show @VisArts in Downtown Rockville

Iris by Vicki Perraut

Studio In-Sight of St. Luke’s House has a stunning double show up now in the VisArts galleries in downtown Rockville, located just around the corner from the new town square.  Half of the show features a jaw-dropping body of work from physics wiz Paul Spratlin and is titled “Science Fiction – Rendering Realities”.  The other half of the gallery houses the show “Recent Work”, which incorporates and wide range of art from the members of  Studio In-Sight.  This show features handcrafted jewelry from Joanne Dvorsky, powerful floral design painting from Vicki Perraut, intense landscape paintings from James Styslinger, wonderful wood-crafted tables and birdhouses by Kenny Schwarz, stunning abstract color form paintings from Robb Williams, deft acrylic wash from Jane Clifford, breathtaking landscape paintings from John Lee, miraculously assembled box art from Nicole Black, powerful abstractions from Jason Reid, unparalleled oils by Henry Jones, nifty needlepoint by Leslie Horrell, and amazing crafts by Lisa Lee.  While the holiday season can be very busy, please try to make the trip to check this tremendous show out.

OUTER LIMITS 2011

Oftentimes extraordinary art comes from unique perspectives. Outer Limits 2011 arts exhibit is meant to highlight how some art and artists live, work, and prosper from a unique other state. Participants for this exhibit come from a vast array of backgrounds and are creating from non-traditional settings. By joining together for this group exhibition, our entire community is offered a rare perspective into how the desire to create can effect positive social and individual change.

Join the members of St. Luke’s House’s very own professional arts studio, Studio In-Sight for their third annual group show of new and recent work. Groups participating in this year’s exhibition: Art Enables, Arundel Lodge, Silver Spring Wellness & Recovery Center, Studio Downstairs, and more! The opening is free to the public, will feature a live musical performance, and light refreshments will be served. After the reception the exhibit will be open to the public through the end of the month by appointment only.

Artistic vision comes from many points of view. Everyone needs a place to create. Established in 2006, Studio In-Sight aims to bring space and inspiration to artists who may be outside the mainstream. Artists of the Studio In-Sight are clients at St. Luke’s House, a psychiatric rehabilitation facility in Montgomery County Maryland that serves those living with a chronic and persistent mental illness. The studio is a part of the Life Skills Program whose mission is to guide, train, and empower the clients in a social and supportive atmosphere.

Greg Sharp is the Artist of the Month

Greg began his artistic path at the age of seven. His early work revolved around life drawings and the still life, but he has moved over to abstract modern styles. His emphasis on colors and subtle differences in texture has produced multiple series that have led him on an almost obsessive pursuit in color discovery.  His work is spurred on by the challenge to create positive feelings in color and form.  He is inspired by many great modernists and impressionists such as Van Gogh, Pissarro, Sisley and their contemporaries.

“Art can give a much needed escape from a certain reality.  At times it has brought me great comfort.  Art is a reality in itself.”

Greg is a founding member of Studio-In-Sight (celebrating our 5th anniversary this month!).  Please take a few moments to appreciate a small sample of his array of artistic talents in the St. Luke’s House, Bethesda office.  Once you’re had a chance to check out his work, please take a second to write down a comment for him.  The comment book is at the front office window.

Thank you,

Eric Gordon
